I don't think it mattered that Ron was a contender for the championship or anything else. Kyle was mad at the truck that traded paint with him and very clearly and intentionally took out that truck. So I don't feel that being parked for the weekend was too harsh of a punishment. (DW says the best way to get a driver's attention is to park them!) I will admit the issue of being penalized when driving for one team affecting the performance of another team will continue to be discussed (similar situation when driver is injured) and adds to the complexity of this event. Coach Gibbs, with his patient wisdom, will handle his team and sponsors as he sees best, which I would really doubt means Kyle would be let go. Not Coach's style. Remember Tony's anger management courses? Coach knows the importance of talent and Kyle does have talent. And if Kyle is smart (and he is) he will listen and learn, regroup and come back next season even more mature. And Amy - watch those truck races - they are a blast!!
