Waxing On About SHR Sponsorship Again (With Additional Tony Stewart Tidbits)Posted by in General | NASCAR
So awhile back I posted my worries about the state of sponsorship of the Stewart-Haas Racing teams- specifically my driver (Tony Stewart). Then a day or two later Stewart-Haas tweeted that they had a sponsorship announcement to make. I was so excited only to then be slightly disappointed when I found out the sponsorship announcement was for Ryan Newman’s team. Nothing against Ryan Newman or Quicken Loans Racing- I think it is awesome that they upped the number of races they sponsor. It does say a LOT for both Ryan Newman AND Stewart-Haas Racing as an organization that after ONE year of sponsorship that they would be willing to sponsor not just the same amount of races- but MORE! But still the disappointment and looming dread of knowing that my driver Tony Stewart was still missing a MAJOR primary co-sponsor was panic inducing. The only thing I found solace in, frankly, was that there were rumors about Bass Pro Shops moving to the 14 car next season.
Well as you know that has finally been officially announced- and in 2013 it will now be the Bass Pro Shops/Mobil 1 Chevy (or the Mobil 1/Bass Pro Shops Chevy – depending on which week it is I guess). So I am EXCITED for that. I do love Bass Pro Shops. I personally shop there myself whenever I am in a city that has one- and use the website to order as well. My favorite shirt that my nephews have been passing down along the lines (I have three of them- 4.5 years, 2.5 years, 15 months) is a shirt I bought my oldest nephew when he was a wee tot for Christmas from Bass Pro Shops that says Future Deer Hunter (hunting is a tradition in my family). It’s one of many I have bought there for them. So I am a fan of Bass Pro and have been for years- so like the partnership with Office Depot- this is easily a sponsor I can personally as a fan put my self behind.
However- by my best calculations (and frankly I am not the best at math- so I could be off a bit) Tony is still either 8 or 9 races from a fully sponsored season (It’s 8 if what I heard about Ritz taking sponsorship for one race is true). Still makes me wish I had the funding to sponsor a race- it would be GREAT fun to see my name or even this website’s name on the car! (Not a picture of my face on the hood though- that would scare everyone away!). Fear not though- there is a “safety” net in place for the unfilled races- and that is that Haas Automation stepping in and sponsoring the empty slots. (For those not in the know- the HAAS of Haas Automation- a manufacturer of machining tools based in California, is the same HAAS in Stewart-Haas). While that most definitely puts this fan’s mind at ease- I would still rather see a fully sponsored season for Tony Stewart. He is the defending Sprint Cup Champion for Pete’s sake.
Plus now it sounds like the sponsorship of the 3rd SHR car in 2013- the #10 Chevy to be piloted by Danica Patrick and thought to be sponsored by GoDaddy.com may have it’s sponsorship in jeopardy as well if you believe this article by Sporting News. Oy.
— And Now For The Aforementioned Tony Stewart Tidbits (not those tidbits- get your minds out of the gutter):
Tony is writing an article every Friday for the Detroit Free Press. This is his article that talks sponsorship- since it’s appropriate to the topic above.
Rumor mill has a 2013 NASCAR Truck Series race possibly happening at Eldora…I hope that this is true and that Sprint Cup cars are not far behind.
Also since we are talking sponsorship- here is a video of the Bass Pro Announcement- it’s pretty funny:
And since we are talking funny videos- here is one of the “behind the scenes” from the Asphalt Circus/Texas Motor Speedway commercials. It too is pretty funny- personally I think it’s funny when Tony almost tips the bumpercar over:
And my last tidbit is a photo. I love photography and there was just something about this picture of Tony at Charlotte that spoke to me:
