Tony Stewart is EXCITED for Daytona (and I am too).

If I took one thing from 2014 NASCAR media tour in Charlotte this week it is this: Tony Stewart is EXCITED for the 2014 season. Don’t believe me? He said “excited” 20 times during the general media scrum (I was going to go back to the transcript and count because I noticed it while he was speaking but thanks to Nate Ryan I don’t have to) and a bazillion more times during his interview on SiriusXM (click on link to hear his excitable snippet) after they broke out into individual sessions. I love it. This season is going to be a great one- I can feel it.

Tony said in an interview a couple of weeks ago that the energy in the shop at Stewart-Haas Racing was at an amazing level- one that he hasn’t seen in his time at Stewart-Haas.  Both Tony and Kevin mentioned this excitement and energy in the shop again today- so THAT excites me.

The yearly media tour does one thing for me: every year it makes me more antsy than I already am for the season to start. For Speedweeks. For races.  For being AT a racetrack.  I am like this every year.  Like most Tony Stewart fans however, I am much more antsy this year because I want to see my driver behind his wheel where he belongs.  I had been suspecting that he was just as antsy if not more so and today he confirmed that during the first session for the media tour when he announced during the main media scrum that he was “counting down the days to get to Daytona.” Me too Tony- me too. Let’s just say I have never before been compelled to take the day of the Sprint Unlimited off of work before but today I submitted a leave request for work.

And for those worried about the fact that the 2014 line up is just asking for disaster- Tony addressed that during the media scrum too:

What everybody is overlooking is the fact that we have four alpha drivers here that have alpha personalities. The great thing is that we all, I think, understand each other. We’re a great support system for each other.” — Tony Stewart, 2014 Sprint Cup Media Tour

Last season was a bad one for Stewart-Haas Racing and Stewart fans…and it’s the enthusiasm they shared during the Media tour that is getting me even more EXCITED for this season.
