Tony Qualified: 11th
Tony Finished: 24th
Points: 107 points (32nd in the standings)
Sigh…yeah you have probably noticed that I am later than normal with my weekly report on the race for Tony. It’s just been one of those weeks: computer issues (again?, still?), busy at the day job, making plans to attend the final race of the season (more on that later) and the race left me really struggling finding something positive to write about for the Duck Commander 500.
(side note: Tony always has the coolest helmets)
Qualifying was good- so that is one thing. Anytime Tony qualifies in the top 15 I consider it a good effort. At the beginning of the race- the run didn’t seem too horribly bad. After all he worked his way well within the top 10 within 10 laps. That made me happy and made me relax. That was my first mistake. During the first caution the team made some adjustment (trackbar I think) that made the car wicked to handle on restarts. Because of that for every restart Tony would drop further back and the the car seemed stagnant in dirty air. It just seems that their half mile program especially is lacking this season.
Towards the end of the race Chad had Tony stay out while most of the leaders came in for tires. While this put him well into the top ten for the restart- unfortunately new tires got the best of him as the track remained green. Tony finished 24th.
Jimmie Johnson was the winner- for the second time this season.
Notes about the race:
The Saturday night race at Texas Motor Speedway made me miss the night race at Phoenix. Hey PIR bring back the night race. It was always a cool event.
So tonight Martin Truex Jr and Tony Stewart were both at the Grand Opening of the Bass Pro in New Jersey…I wonder how awkward that was?
Thank you to all the people who entered the BadGroove contest Easter weekend: Four winners were drawn at random for the prize packages: Kristine, Christine, Aaron, and Ryan. Congratulations to all four of you.

Tony looks like a little boy with his hand caught in the cookie jar in this picture.
Next Week’s Race: Bristol Motor Speedway (one of my “bucket list” races)
