As always NASCAR Champions week in Las Vegas was a ton of fun.
The cars were all on display out at The Linq with a NASCAR Superstore set up just inside the doors of the Flamingo. The superstore had gear from all the chasers and Tony Stewart (yeah not sure why Tony was included but that was cool). They also had the Sprint Cup on display there where fans could get their photo with it. There was a stage at the Linq where there were driver interviews- but unfortunately while we were there we were so far back that the photos both Misty and I took were just of the back of people’s heads.
For Fan Fest we decided to skip the usual madness of standing on the Red Carpet and instead take spots at the game show on the stage at the end of the red carpet for fan fest. That was fun because it was probably only the second time I can remember staying for the game show portion. The first time being back when Fan Fest was held out at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the neon garage. This year that game was a team version of Jeopardy. Teams included drivers, two teams had Miss Sprint Cups and each of the four teams had a fan associated with the team.
Of course then there was NASCAR After The Lap at the Pearl at The Palms in Las Vegas. I adore NASCAR After the Lap. The drivers are loose and open and it always seems to end too soon! Misty caught some photos of After The Lap:
This year at After The Lap they had the audience wear these strange wristbands that would blink different colors from time to time. They were big, bulky and audience members couldn’t keep them. Honestly it was a bit bizarre. But other than that it was a great time.
Now before After The Lap began audience members were informed to stay in the auditorium because they would be doing something special for retiring cup driver Jeff Gordon. So after the drivers left the stage, Jimmie Johnson came back out and reintroduced Jeff Gordon. He was presented with a dance by the break dance team The Flash Gordons while fans waved strategically placed Jeff Gordon cars on cardboard and big giant Jeff Gordon Heads. Basically it gave fans a chance to applaud Jeff Gordon one more time.
As always we had a great time at all the fan events during NASCAR Champions Week in Las Vegas and I can only hope that Tony Stewart makes it to the chase next season so that we can have the same kind of send off.
These are just some of pictures from various events during NASCAR Champions Week. You can check out our photo album for Champions Week here on Flickr.
