G says: Since we are in the full swing of the holiday season (yes, it’s almost time to start panicking if you haven’t started yet) I thought I would base my questions on traditions.  But I’m also doing things a wee bit different.  Instead of just five questions, I’m offering 25.  You can do this anyway you’d like.  If you have the time, it would be great to see all 25 questions answered.  But if you’re seriously pressed for time, just pick five you would like to answer.  And again, based on your time constraints, try to limit the one-word responses.  For me, these Friday 5 questions offer an opportunity to get to know a little bit about you.  Anyway, I’ll stop for now.  Just do want you can do.

  1. Do you usually use wrapping paper or gift bags? Wrapping paper…I LOVE to wrap presents.
  2. Is your tree a real tree or is it artificial? Real…although I am going to admit we don’t have one yet.
  3. If you do put a tree up, when do you usually do this?  Usually weekend after Thanksgiving…
  4. When do you take your tree down?  Any specific reason for this – tradition etc? As soon as Christmas is over- sometimes as early as late on Christmas Day.  Its just always been that way.
  5. What about eggnog?  Do you like it?  Any special ingredients added?  Don’t like it…bleck.
  6. Do you have a nativity scene?  A menorah? A nativity scene
  7. What was a special (or favorite) gift you received as a child? I can think of two…the first one would be my favorite Bike when I was a kid….it was orange and yellow and I LOVED that Bike.  The other was after my maternal grandparents moved from here to Alabama…they went to Talladega (on purpose just for me) and bought me a video of Richard Petty and a bunch of souvenirs. It was really cool that they went through that trouble.
  8. Who is your hardest person to buy for?  Why? My brother…because I always want to get people the perfect gift and I have trouble decided what he would like the most :/
  9. Who is your easiest person to buy for? That would be a tie between my mom and BFM
  10. Do you send Christmas (or holiday) cards?  Email or snail mail? Yes…via snail mail
  11. What was the worst Christmas present you ever received? A sweater vest.
  12. What is your favorite holiday movie? The Grinch, Home Alone (only the first one),
  13. When do you start your holiday shopping? I usually start around September or so and I am usually very done by now with my presents wrapped and under the tree…this year…I am about half done and nothing is wrapped…because there is no tree to put them under yet.
  14. Have you ever recycled a present? Yes isn’t that the purpose of white elephant gift exchanges?
  15. What is your favorite thing to eat during the holidays?  Anything Sweet Potato
  16. What about the lights on your tree – colored, clear, mixed? Colored
  17. What is your favorite Christmas/holiday song? Sarajevo 12/24 by Trans-Siberian Orchestra
  18. Do you travel or stay home for the holidays? Stay home…I wait to travel after
  19. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer? Dasher Dancer Prancer Vixen Comet Cupid Donner Blitzen and Rudolph
  20. What goes on the top of your tree?  Angel, star, squirrel? Usually an Angel….sometimes a star.
  21. Do you open presents on Christmas Eve, or Christmas morning? Both. Extended family on Christmas Eve and immediate family on Christmas Morning.
  22. What’s the most annoying thing about this time of year? Not having the spirit but wanting it.
  23. Will you attend a religious service this Christmas season? Probably not
  24. What would you really like to receive on Christmas this year? A stress free Christmas gathering.
  25. And finally just to see if you’re paying attention, in A Charlie Brown Christmas, what does Lucy want for Christmas? Doesn’t she want a Shiny Aluminum Christmas Tree? Its been years…

I am a little late doing the Wednesday Caution Lap this week (blame it on me being lazy and grumpy and well I could go on)…but here is Caution Lap #2:

1. Have you ever started disliking a driver because of one of their obnoxious fans? Actually no because I don’t have much experience with other fans in person. I mean my parents are fans…and I recently turned my friend into a fan but none of them are obnoxious…of course ask me this after I attend the race in March. I will probably have a completely different opinion.

2. What do you hate most about NASCAR fans? So far nothing (see above)

3. What do you like most about NASCAR fans? The ones that I have come to know through my blog are all really cool!!!

4. When did you first realize that you were a fan? I have been a NASCAR fan since I was probably about 8 or so…I would watch races with my dad…but I started out as a cart/champ/irl fan first.  My earliest memories of watching a “race” was watching the Indy 500 on tv with my dad…and in my house it was treated like most household treat the superbowl.   I recently read an letter, I think it was in Nascar Scene but I don’t remember to be honest, that said a “real” NASCAR fan is one who actually goes to races. That kinda pissed me off because some of us fans might not have the means to go to a track…seeing as how I live in CA…and the closest track is well over 2 hours away (Infineon)….and while I like watching road courses on TV to be honest…they can suck in person (I have watched many a race at Laguna Seca…and most of it is watching the screen if they have one set up).  I am excited to be going to the Vegas race this year….(thanks to BFM I won’t even need a hotel).

I am being teased and I want it to stop. First it was Trader Joes that teased me. They had these luscious dried fuji apple slices in the dried food section along with dried orange flavored cranberries. I fell in love with them both. I drive miles out of my way just to go to Trader Joes so I can grab me up so apples and cranberries. And then they stop carrying them just like that. I want me some fuji apples and they aren’t at either of the Trader Joes in the area.

Next my new car has been teasing me. How? Let’s back up…to the day one week ago when I bought a new Chevy HHR LS. Well that model I bought happened to come with an XM ready radio…including three months of XM service. I was SURE that I wouldn’t want XM radio…but then I thought…might as well see what all the hubbub is about…and I programmed in some rock and country stations to see what it was like. OMG! I am sooo in love with XM radio. So my car is teasing me because as much as I love it…I don’t know that I love it enough to subscribe to it. I was telling BFM this the other day over the phone and her response is: “Quit being a cheap bastard and subscribe!”

Cell Phone DOA

Posted by Amy in General - (0 Comments)

Back on Nov 25th I told you of my cellphone hatred.  Well it only gets worse.  On Saturday night I spent probably 30 minutes or so the the phone with Verizon Technical Support.  I pulled my Samsung A950 out of my purse so that I could see of BFM had called me- since I had been outside most of the day helping with even more christmas lights (don’t ask- I have another entry to talk about that).  It said two missed calls so I hit OK to see who they were and that is when it happened.  Suddenly my phone said SEARCHING FOR SVC (which apparently means SERVICE).  And that is what it does now.  Did you know your cell phone has an uber secret menu that you can’t get too from the normal menu? Neither did I until the second level Verizon Tech support had me bring it up…(didn’t fix a darn thing).

In November I lamented on the fact that my cell phone had learned a new trick…that of the dropped call.  Well I think that the dropping of the call was a precursor to this NO SERVICE thing that it does.   Sometimes that SEARCHING FOR SVC thing goes away and it looks fine.  But the minute I go to make a call it won’t do it.  I get Calling…(number dialed) and then nothing…it sticks there. When I get frustrated and end call…my good pal SEARCHING FOR SVC is back.

The WHOLE reason I got this phone was that I had a Samsung that I LOVED. It was the most reliable, dependable phone ever.  The Samsung A950 however? Sucks!  About 6 weeks after I got the A950 the key pad stopped working completely.  I took it back to Verizon and they exchanged it for a new one.  I was unsatisfied with the battery life of this phone.  I complained to Verizon about it and they comped me a new battery…but it did the SAME thing- it drained in a day.  I ended up getting half-off an extended battery.  Then there is this crap about the service.  Worse part? I am not gonna lay down over $200 for a phone….I am up for a new phone at the end of January…and I will get me a new phone then.   In the meantime if you have my cell phone number…don’t call it. email me and I will give you the number of my dad’s phone.  He gave me his phone until my situation is fixed…because he doesn’t use his like I use mine…plus his work gives him a cell phone that he can use.

Remember back in September when I claimed my love for the Chevy HHR? Well if you don’t…go ahead and check it out. I will wait for you don’t worry.  Back? Good. Well…then it should be no surprise to you to see this:

Sorry for the crappy quality picture…but this was taken with my camera phone….which sucks.  Its been raining so I haven’t had ability to take a wonderful picture with my good camera.   I present to you my new car.  On Tuesday morning I drove Doris the Rav4 to a Chevy dealership and abandoned her for this little beauty.  She is so fancy on the inside….I love her.  I still haven’t named her…but am leaning towards Greased Lightning.  We will see though.  She is an HHR LS in Silverstone….with gray leather interior.  And Seat Warmers (those kinda freak me out…who wants a hot keister?)…and remote start (something else that is weird to me).  It even has a little sunroof…which I like.

Caution Lap #1

Wednesday Caution Lap Meme is a new meme started for Nascar fans (YEY!). So here goes…Caution Lap #1

1. Who is your favorite driver and why?  Well Tony Stewart.  Why?  I have been meaning to write a whole entry about this eventually…it never happened and then I decided to hold off until the beginning of the next season…but in short- it is because he races hard….and he isn’t afraid to show his emotion…if he doesn’t have a good day he gets upset about it…and I can’t say as I blame him…I like to see the real emotion.

2. Who would you consider the best NASCAR driver in the series right now and why?  Hmm…well Tony Stewart is good…because he races hard and when things aren’t going well he and his crew usually can work hard to make things better (unless they get collected in a crash).

3. Who do you think out of the new rookies from the past few seasons (Hamlin, Ragan, Montoya, etc.) will come out to be the next big star of NASCAR?  I think JPM is actually fitting in a lot better than I thought he would…and he races pretty hard.

4. Are you loyal to your favorite driver’s sponsor? Well…I am not big on the home improvement stores really…but if I did have to go I would go to Home Depot (we don’t have a Lowes though so is that a fair thing?).  I am a big fan of (diet) Coke….and would rather have that over pepsi any say of the week.

5. What’s the most expensive thing you’ve bought to show your love for your favorite driver?  My Tony Stewart Christmas Inflatable…because we get really into Christmas decorating.  I think it was around $80.00.
