Tony Qualified: 22nd in a random draw

Tony Finished: 13th, 7 laps down

Ahh, is it not great to have our NASCAR back? It is for me. I didn’t realize how much I missed it even until I was sitting in my kitchen trying to figure out if the date of the Unlimited was the same day and time of my nephew’s 5th birthday party (luckily indeed they weren’t even on the same day). YEY – Speedweeks are officially (and finally) here and so is the first TQMS (The Quotable Mr. Stewart) of the season:

“You look at marquee events around the world, and not only in NASCAR but in all of motorsports – the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 24 Hours At Daytona, the Indy 500, the Knoxville Nationals – and to be a driver that can cross off one of those marquee events as a winner, that cements your legacy in motorsports. To be able to win the Daytona 500 is the ultimate dream of a racecar driver.”Tony Stewart, Team Release, February 11th, 2015

Master Motorsports Photographer Klemantaski by Paul Parker

I obviously love to read- or I wouldn’t have created the #NASCAR Reading List feature here on BadGroove. But what you might not know is that I love books themselves. Yes, I am talking about those bound collections of paper with writings in them. I can’t tell you how much I miss bricks and mortar bookstores (the nearest one to me is in the next county- 27 miles away or so) because I would often just go to wander around and look at the books on those occasions that I didn’t have anything else to do.  If I had a huge house- I would devote a whole room to being a library, but alas I don’t have a house like that so I have a book case. A very crammed full book case at that, which is one of the reasons I invested in an e-reader. I now only keep physical copies of books I absolutely love as it’s all I have room for now.  Most of those books are works of fiction with a small  motorsports section that is crammed so tight I have had to weed through it multiple times. I  think I might fudge this one and put it in my photography section so I don’t have to weed out any more of my beloved motorsports books.

Klemantaski: Master Motorsports Photographer by Paul Parker has got to be one of the most gorgeous books I have seen in a long time. It’s a book of motorsports photographs detailing what is often called racing’s “golden era” – pre-WWII through the early 1970s.  But first let me give you a little background on who Louis Klemantaski is before we get into this beautiful book. As I sit here watching the Superbowl, I really have only one thing on my mind. NASCAR. I really can’t help myself- it’s how I am wired. Sports with balls are really just in my periphery, it’s sports with wheels that catch my attention and of those NASCAR that really catches my attention and my heart.

I will be the first to admit that at the end of last season I was ready for it. Can you blame me? It’s been a shitty two years for my driver on every level, some we can likely barely even comprehend.  Of course that didn’t stop me from getting a tattoo supporting my driver during champions week in Las Vegas. But still- I was ready for it to be done.  And I honestly didn’t even miss it that much (obviously by my lack of posts here during the off-season lamenting about how long the off season seems).

I am not happy about the last two years of my life by any means. It’s given me more drive and desire to get back to the old form that our fans and our sponsors and everybody are use to seeing us in. So I am looking forward to it. This is probably the most prepared I’ve been in awhile for a season to start. — Tony Stewart, CMS Media Tour, 1-27-15

So Tony Fans…do  you have any guesses as to the Tony Stewart Racing Announcement:

Tony Stewart Racing Announcement

Credit: Tony Stewart Store on Facebook

It was posted on the Tony Stewart Racing Facebook page, The Tony Stewart Store Facebook page and sent out via email from the store email account.  Anyone want to gander a guess as to what the announcement is? Really all it says is that fans have asked and they have answered, that is really the only clue.

Here are my guesses in the order of what I think is probability:

1. They are bringing back the Prelude To The Dream.

or

2. They are bringing back Tony Stewart Live on Sirius as a regular feature on Sirius.
So? What do YOU think they announcement will be on Tuesday?

Speaking of which don’t forget: Tony Stewart Live will return at 7:00 PM ET on Sirius XM NASCAR (Channel 90) on 2/3/15!

I love to read. That is probably evident judging by the “Amy’s NASCAR Reading list” posts I make (and for those of you wondering I will be continuing that this year and already have some posts planned) but I can’t imagine a world without reading. That is why I love the speedway reading events. I know Fontana does some reading events around their race and Texas Motor Speedway has the Speed To Read program. This year Speed To Read has partnered with Lionel Racing in a Design-A-Diecast program! How cool is that?

More than 3,500 students in the seven schools that participate in the Speed To Read program will have the opportunity to use their artistic talents to design their a diecast paint scheme. Students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade will design a NASCAR paint scheme .  Winners will be picked in each of two grade categories:  grades K-2 and grades 3-5. The winner will have their diecast actually produced on a 1:24 scale diecast and presented to them in an acrylic case. That is such a cool idea- I would have LOVED that as a kid! Their classmates will recieve a 1:64th Lionel branded diecast as well.  The winner in each category will additionally receive tickets to the Duck Commander 500 at Texas Motor Speedway on April 11th, 2015. So not only do they receive a cool diecast as their reward but they will be heading to the race in April! How fun!

Happy 2015
