Can you believe she is leaving me again for Vegas? Who is this Vegas and what does she have that I do not have??

Can you believe she is leaving me again for Vegas? Who is this Vegas and what does she have that I do not have??

I am off for a quick weekend in Vegas. Well I don’t really know how QUICK it will be since I have to drive 500 miles to get there (and it will take me twice as long as a stock car race…and there is no one singing the national anthem for me or giving me a flyover (actually sometimes I do get a flyover-as there is an air force base on my route and at my favorite rest stop sometimes they are flying around) or cheering me on.

While I will be watching the Atlanta race- most likely at the NASCAR CAFE if I have any say, race posts will not be posted until late Monday at the earliest…possibly even sometime Tuesday depending on when I get home from my travels and how wiped out I am when I get home.  I will do my best to twitter while I am gone so you can check the twitter box on the left or follow me on twitter for updates throughout the weekend.

Feel free to talk amongst yourselves in the comments. I love to come back to a bunch of blog comments– so have at it. Also, remember I am still compiling a list of ideas to post about in November- I already have a couple so keep them coming in. See ya on the flip side!

I am posting the fill-in Thursday night since I will be leaving for Vegas bright and early in the am.

1. Right now, I’m feeling a little tired.
2. Las Vegas is where I want to be.
3. How does one take such excellent pictures?
4. I am still looking for someone or something that keeps me on track.
5. Please don’t eat the daisies.
6. Seeing my nephew fills me with joy.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight (friday) I’m looking forward to arriving in Vegas, tomorrow (saturday)my plans include a rock concert and Sunday, I want to watch the Atlanta race at the NASCAR Cafe!

It looks like there is a very good possibility that the Altanta qualifying will be rained out.  That makes how many qual sessions rained out this year? A lot. Its seems to be the year of the rained out qualifying. I have mixed feelings about this. It keeps Tony within the top 10 of the field because lately he has been a less than stellar qualifier. However- it also does not help me gauge the field. Who is running well- who isn’t running well. Plus it would give me something to listen to on the drive to Vegas if I can find it on my XM. (I really need to see about getting that Sirius / XM package.)

Now onto SHR. I watched Tony and Ryan on Trackside last week (or most of it anyway). It’s really got to be hard to be Scott Riggs right about now. You are driving a car hard- trying to win races for a team that you won’t be driving for next season.  They want you to do your best so that their new driver won’t be a go-or-go-homer for the first 10 races.  It’s really got to be a tough situation for him.

Yesterday I was a total technology disaster. I was beginning to understand what it is like to be my mother (she is the queen of tech disaster).  It started sitting at work (for those who don’t know- I run a dual monitor) when my right monitor decided to go haywire. It started flickering and got all these crazy white lines all over it. I went next door and asked one of the techs to look at it and he said “What did you do?” and ended up replacing my right monitor.  Then suddenly my speakers just stopped working- on the same computer. That was crazy too. They still aren’t working but I am not going to deal with that until next week.  Then my cell phone decided to get all funky on me and not get a signal. That I think was just due to the walls here at work. (I am in an old military building- the walls are crazy thick concrete). When I got home I had trouble getting my internet to work…but its working now.

Last November I took part in NABLOPOMO (National Blog Posting Month).  I plan to do the same thing this November.  My plan is to post at least once a day every day in November including Saturdays AND Sundays AND holidays.  It’s a challenge for me because sometimes I don’t feel like even looking at the computer on the weekends…but I will do it. I completed it last November and I will do it again.

Here is where I ask for your help. In the comments section please give me some ideas of things you would like me to write about. I am pretty much open to any idea- however silly you might think it is (however I prefer to steer clear from politics).

In a completely non noblopomo related thing- I have decided to try to compile a 100 things About Me for the ABOUT page since I can’t figure whatelse to put on there (if you have an idea let me know). So you might want to check that back on the About page ocassionally to see my progress.

On Friday I am leaving for another trip to Las Vegas. The BFF called me last month and invited me down- and who am I to say no? I won’t be back until late Monday and have work bright and early Tuesday- so my Atlanta post will probably be late. (Yes I will be watching Atlanta…at the NASCAR CAFE!)

  1. Salted Caramel Signature Hot Chocolate from Starbucks. They are warm, rich and not supersweet. I love this. Tres Yummy!!! My new favorite hot drink.
  2. Sierra Mist Free Cranberry Splash. Yummy I love this stuff and it only comes out in the fall/winter season and then it will be gone again.
  3. Lipstick Jungle. I don’t know why because I honestly didn’t watch but two episodes last season. But now I am totally into it.
  4. Circus Animal Cookies. I love these things…get em while you can- Mother’s Cookies recently filed for bankruptcy.
  5. Pillsbury Ghost Sugar Cookies. Easy to make and tres delicious…just don’t cook them too long.

What are you digging right now?

You can also read my Letters Of Martinsville Redux post regarding Chase Race 6.

  • Congratulations are again in order for Clint Bowyer who for the third weekend in the row was the Gillette Young Gun’s Time Shaver of the race. He and his crew spent the least amount of time in the pits. Way to go Clint, Gil and crew. WHOOPS!! Looks Like I may have jumped the (gillette young) gun there!
  • Congratulations are in order for Carl Edwards (and no- not because he just became engaged) for winning the Gillette Young Gun’s Time Shaver of Martinsville! He and his crew spent the least amount of time in the pits. Way to go Carl, Bob, and crew!!!!
  • Did you all see Jimmie’s jackman, Kenneth Purcell, slip in the brakedust, recover and still get Jimmie out ahead of the field? That was a great recovery!
  • Don’t think that I didn’t notice that Tony’s pit crew did an awesome job getting him out during the race. Tony might not have had the best race, between the wrong brake package and the two blown right fronts- but the pit crew was in top form at Martinsville. Way to go guys.

Ok…I love me some NASCAR advertisements. I know I am odd…but its true. I love them. Apparently my fellow bloggers do too because both RaceKitten and The Fast And The Fabulous have released their list of favorite ads. Not to be outdone…here is my list of favorites in reverse order of favorites and why:

5. The Coke Zero Taste Infringement commercial- It’s all about the face Bobby Labonte makes at Michael Waltrip when talking with the Coke reps. Its just for a split second when he cocks his one eyebrow…that part cracks me up. Well that part and the part where the coke rep says “Come on Tony we all know you’re pretty comfortable with that” when Tony says that it would probably get them suspended.

4. The Ron Capps/ Michael Waltrip “I can’t look at you right now” commercial-I have to say that Michael Waltrip makes great commercials. Mostly because he makes fun of himself and he does it in a gracious way. I absolutely love the bird commercial that picked…we actually mock that commercial a lot in my house. However this one has taken over. There are times we often throw “I can’t even look at you right now” back and forth at each other…because we are geeks like that.

3. The Toyota Fan Controller commercial- I think this one is on my list for a couple reasons. First being I saw the making of the commercial and Tony seemed to be quite excited when they told him it was ok to throw his helmet at the car that was chasing him. That and something cracks me up about “Run Zippy. Run For Your Life!” Oh and at the very end when the car comes crashing through the garage stall towards Zippy and Tony…Tony gets the hell outta the way and Zippy just kind of does this little twirl thing. That humors me too…but mostly its the “Run Zippy! Run for your life!”

2. The Feel Better Fast Radio Show commercial- Kevin Harvick and Elliott Sadler totally steal the show on this commercial. That whole exchange at the end where Kevin says the caller might try a new girlfriend and then Elliott just looks at him and shakes his head and then Kevin just shrugs and says “what??” Kevin Harvick reminds me of my brother there. That is so something he would say or do and that is exactly how he would react when we would look and shake our heads. That is why I LOVE that part.

1. The Tony Stewart / Joey Logano Home Depot commercial- There are three things about this commercial I love: Joey Logano’s body language when he cuts the board all crooked- he looks so dejected. Tony Stewart’s facial expression when Joey steps in the paint pan is priceless and spot on. The third part I love is the part at the end when Tony is handing over the steering wheel to Joey and holds onto it for a split second and almost fights for it back. That last thing I love…is also the one thing I hate about that commercial. I hate the whole passing on of the torch…end of an era type deal. Now I won’t go rehashing my thoughts about the whole Stewart Haas Racing thing again – because I have done that here. But yeah…its a love hate with this commercial.

And a newly discovered commericial from 2004 that I think is hilarious: The Coke “Sorry About Your Little Car” commercial. This one you just have to watch but the line “Aw dang sorry about your little car Tony” cracked me up almost as much as Harvick’s face when getting into the cart.

Read the original post The Letters of Martinsville for background on the format. Here are the new Letters of Martinsville:

Dear Dale Jarrett-

It’s okay to be excited to watch Martinsville- I enjoy it too! Plus I really enjoy you as a race annoucer! Let’s go racing.

Wahoo- Amy

Dear Carl Edwards-

You’re smoking your tires awfully early. Patience man patience!

Amy PS Apparently its your splitter so never mind.

Dear Jeff Gordon-

Who set your ass on fire? My bff will be thrilled. Keep it up.

Dear DirecTv-

Please time your commercials better so I can hear about Tony’s handling issues. It’s a bit frustrating to hear “I’m turning good but…” only to be interrupted by a commercial break (on for Home Depot ironically). Thanks.

Hotpass SD Channel lover- Amy

Dear Tony/Zippy-

What exactly is “side bite?” I kinda have an idea judging by my knowledge of forward bite- but I would like to know officially. Thanks.

Amy PS. Keep digging! You’re doing good so far!

Dear Scott Speed-

Go back to F1 please. Thx! Love, AMY

Dear Jr.

Um, first playing shovsies with your teammate Mears and then spinning McMurray? Patience man, patience! It’s a long race yet.

Amy PS. Stay away from Stewart- m’kay? Thx.

Dear Tony-

You crack me up! Radioing in with “I DIDN’T TOUCH HIM!” the minute after Regan Smith spun made me chuckle. What made me laugh even more though? When your spotter Mike said “But did you pass him under the yellow line?” Oh the humor.

Keep digging- Amy

Dear Tony/Zippy-

Right sides only?!? Are you all nuts? It did NOTHING for the Biff last run.

Just curious- Amy

Dear Jimmie-

I am just wondering where you think they “magic factor” adjustment is on the car and who adjusts that during a pitstop? I’m pretty sure that Chad Knaus would like to know this too.

Magically challenged- Amy

Dear Roxy-

I know you relish your midafternoon Sunday naps in your chair- all curled up in a cute little ball. However you are snoring louder than the TV and I can’t hear. Please stop lest I kick you outside for your nap.

Do they make breathe right strips for dogs?- Amy

Dear Front Tire Carrier for the 41-

Thank you for carrying the crew cam. I love the crew cam. Also thanks for taking the time to tell us what you are doing during the pitstop. That can’t be easy but it totally rocks. Thanks.

The Pit Stop Geek- Amy

Dear Sprint Speed Commercial in the Grocery Store-

Why the heck are you so much louder than all the other? Turn it down. Thanks for making me sound like my parents.

Old and Grouchy, Amy

Dear Race Announcer- FYI cream rises to the top. The cream does not rise to the crop. Its either cream of the crop or cream rises to the top. Trust me I know this!

This I know- Amy

Dear Kurt Busch-

I know you are way behind and that has to be disappointing but you can not just pull into the garage and quit. Your sponsors would not like that.

Don’t Be A Quitter- Amy

Dear Zippy- I really don’t understand your pit strategy. After Tony melted the first right front and then like 10-20 laps later there was a yellow you brought him in anyway. Then the second time Tony melted the right front there was another yellow no more than 10 laps later (if that). And you pulled Tony in again! I do NOT understand why you didn’t leave him out to gain some positions back.  What did I miss??

Confused- Amy

Congratulations on your win Jimmie. You are on your way to number three.

Next week: Chase Race 7: Atlanta (which I will be watching from Las Vegas…most likely at the NASCAR CAFE!)
