Started: 15th

Finished: 21st, 2 laps down.

Points: 26th (420 points, which is 93 points ahead of 31st place Regan Smith which I am being told means we are locked into the top 30 meaning we are locked into the chase. Oh and we are 2 points behind 25th place Aric Almirola).

I have to start off by saying it says something about the quality of the national broadcast coverage when someone who was watching the race asks me on Facebook what happened to Tony and why did he finish 21st, two laps down.  I watched the national broadcast so I know her pain- he was rarely mentioned during the broadcast even when he was on the lead lap but it wasn’t really mentioned when he went a lap down and it definitely wasn’t mentioned when he lost his second lap.  The only reason I really knew what was happening was because I was using the Scanner part of the NASCAR Mobile ap and watching twitter while I was watching the race and honestly the radio – especially Tony’s part was staticy and kind of hard to decipher at times. You’d think they would have mentioned a bit more about Tony considering he was in the top ten during the first practice and topped the chart during the second practice – not to mention finished 7th in the June race at Michigan. It was disappointing. (more…)

Points: 152 (35th in the standings, 45 points away from 30th and 8 points away from 34th).

No matter where Tony starts in the grid I have always said that finishing better than what you started is a good day.  Tony may have finished 4 spots lower than where he started the race- but it’s really hard to call it a bad day when Tony Stewart and Team 14 had such a great weekend over all. This is the kind of weekend us Smoke fans have been wanting to see so I can only imagine the same is true for Tony and the team itself. (more…)

Quote of The Race: “You’re the dog.” — Chad Johnston, informing Tony he had made it into lucky dog position. For some reason just the way Chad said this struck me as funny during the race.

I tweeted something to this effect on Sunday morning before the race but I want to expound on it in more than 140 characters. When thinking about the NASCAR season as a whole- I automatically consider any restrictor plate race a wild card, meaning anything at all can happen to any driver at any point so I can’t count on that track being good to my driver(s) points wise.  This year- because of the repave I considered Pocono grouped in there- forgetting totally about Michigan’s repave.
