First off- I can’t believe I forgot to mention last week’s Episode 3 (The Interview) of Smoke IS The Bandit!
Frog and Smoke (Photo Provided by: Mobil 1)
This is the one that introduces the character Frog played by ESPN reporter Nicole Briscoe who is trying everything in her arsenal to get an interview with Smoke but unfortunately for her, The Bandit showed up instead (well you know Tony and his LOVE of the media right ).
My favorite line: “I’m gonna call you Frog.” But WHY is she in a wedding dress? You will have to watch the episode here to find out.
Finally in the Mobil 1 parody Smoke IS The Bandit- we see the Sheriff played by none other than Jeff Hammond- begin his pursuit of that black Trans Am. My favorite part of this episode are the “extras” sitting at the tables next to the snack stand who aren’t the least bit fazed by the car doing a burn out right next to them. Guess it has been a long day at the track without ear protection for them. Jeff Hammond actually does a great job in character- talk about great casting! (more…)
I am STILL going through all the pictures from Vegas and getting some of them cleaned up for a post about the race.
So to hold you over- I am linking to Smoke Is the Bandit episode 2 for your viewing pleasure! Warning- “Bandit’s” giggle is infectious.
Remember the next episode should be out Thursday (yes tomorrow!)
I was sad that I missed my opportunity to see the “Smoke Is The Bandit” car at Las Vegas MotorSpeedway -it was there but on Thursday and I wasn’t at the track until Friday. But I found this great photo of Tony and the Car on from Thursday for your viewing pleasure:

In my journeys on the internet last night I found some fun Mobil 1 related stuff that I wanted to share!
The first comes from Mobil 1 Racing’s The Grid- it’s a behind-the-scenes look at the Jenson Button/Tony Stewart Mobil 1 commercials:
What I wouldn’t give to be a fly on the wall during those shoots (I am unclear if Jenson and Tony were ever actually in the same room as each other- for some reason I get the impression that perhaps they weren’t). But I would still like to be a fly on the wall of BOTH of the shoots if indeed they weren’t. Judging by some of the clips they show- either some really funny stuff got cut out or perhaps (fingers crossed) another commercial is in the works.
Also last night I was surfing a major news site that shall remained unnamed when I came across a news story out of Smithfield, VA. The one and only Guinness Book of World Records recently certified the world’s biggest bottle of motor oil which happens to be at Smithfield Fast Lube. That world record bottle just happens to be a really REALLY big bottle of Mobil 1 (there is a video included in the news article- I tried to embed it but for some reason the embed code they gave would not work for me). I think I heard them say that the bottle is 400 times bigger than the standard Mobil 1 bottle that you can pick up at your local automotive parts retailers and “contains 757 litres” (not sure how much that is in gallons) of new Mobil 1 motor oil that they install into the cars having their oil refreshed. That is a lot of oil! I wonder how long it would take them to go through the whole bottle.
First order of business…Mobil 1 has produced a six part series on The Story of Oil….with the help of animated Jenson Button, animated Sergio Perez and yes…animated Tony Stewart. The first episode is “What’s It Oil About” and is up on the Mobil 1 youtube channel now:
I was thinking this morning yesterday morning (because I had to post THIS instead)- Stewart-Haas got their first win at the 2009 All-Star Race. It is no secret that Stewart Haas Racing is struggling this season- especially my beloved #14 team. I would love for them to bust out an awesome race and win at the All-Star Race in Charlotte this weekend. I think the morale boost alone could carry the 14 team into the Sprint Cup Chase- elusive wild cards be damned. Yeah I am already starting to get nervous about the points. I am a points watcher and 21st in points – well it gives me heartburn AND heartache. But I am hopeful that this season will turn around SOON and Tony and the #14 team will go on a tear- if anyone can do it- Tony can.
Speaking of which- I occasionally will peruse my website stats and one of my favorite things to look at is how people end up on my page. Someone recently did a Google search for “why is stewart haas racing racing doing so badly.” They ended up here at BadGroove as if I had the answer. If I had the answer I would tell the team straight away so we could END the bad part of the season. Let’s just say the other day I came across my $2 bill and I remembered that eons ago I read that Tony said that he thought $2 bills were lucky. Don’t make me send you mine Tony Stewart because I so will.
Anyway- the winner in the Mobile 1 Under The Hood with Tony Stewart was not me-but I didn’t think it would be. Honestly I forgot to vote a couple days so I don’t think I got in enough votes. Anyway the lucky winner was Sandra Clark…here are some pictures from the event…looks darn fun to me:

Since I got all philosophical, sentimental, or whatever you would call that with the Texas Race Report –I left out the “Notes” section where I usually go into all things NASCAR that didn’t fit nice and tidy in the race post. So I present to you- NASCAR tidbits in no particular order that have been floating around in my brain: (more…)
So I have two classic car things to share with you:
First one is this: You can win a chance to help Tony Stewart change the oil in one of the cars in his classics collection. I have been entering- so I hope that by help they mean hand the man a filter and some paper towels while he scoots under the car on a creeper….just in case I indeed win. I know I should be able to change my own oil but I never have and would feel foolish not knowing what to do! So unless he feels like actually teaching me (I would be willing to learn- at $40 bucks a pop for an oil change I would be saving $$ to do it myself) I would just be handing him the stuff and thinking OMG I totally just handed TONY FREAKING STEWART!!! an oil filter! Because pretty much that is how my brain works. Anyway I am obviously digressing!
The easiest way to enter is first LIKING The MOBIL 1 Facebook page (facebook.com/mobil1) then going to the Under The Hood (Tony’s Sweepstakes) FaceBook ap- which also lets fans vote which car will get it’s oil changed (The options are his 1957 Chevy Bel Air, his 1978 Pontiac Firebird (think Smokey and The Bandit- unless you are too young to know what I speakand then think- cool car), his 1967 Pontiac GTO, and his 1955 Chevy Nomad). Right now it’s the 78 Firebird against the 67 GTO and I am surprised to say as of a couple of minutes ago? The GTO was KILLING the Firebird in the voting- BY A HUGE LANDSLIDE (66% to 34%). I am going to go out on a limb here and say that I think that the overall winner of the car is going to be the 57 Bel Air BUT if I had my way it would be the 55 Nomad. If you have read this site any length of time you know that I ADORE the CHEVY Nomad and would love to own a bright yellow one.
Here is a video about the contest showing off Tony’s actual cars…too bad his Nomad is orange (I am still voting NOMAD when it’s time though).
Anyway- if one of my readers happens to win I hope you will share the experience with us here! And if I will you KNOW I will- but I rarely win things so don’t get your hopes up!
Am I the only one starting to get antsy for the beginning of the NASCAR season? I can’t be the only one who hears a revving engine and is like…MAN when does NASCAR start- NOT SOON ENOUGH that is when! But our “long off season” – which isn’t actually so long in the grand scheme of other sports – is coming to an end sooner than you can shake a broken transmission at (PSA: do NOT attempt to shake a broken transmission- those things look quite heavy).
The Sprint Unlimited is just a little more than week away (Feb 16th) – this race takes the place of what use to be called The Bud Shootout and then just The Shootout. Then the Bud Duels (formally the Gatorade Duels) are Thursday Feb 21st (URG I have to work and they are in the middle of the dang day! WHY NASCAR WHY DO YOU TORTURE ME SO?). Then of course, the DAYTONA 500 is on the 24th. So it’s all happening and soon! I CAN’T WAIT! Sorry for the excessive caplock usage- but when I get excited I have no other way to let you know that to YELL it in my post.
