Since I got all philosophical, sentimental, or whatever you would call that with the Texas Race Report –I left out the “Notes” section where I usually go into all things NASCAR that didn’t fit nice and tidy in the race post. So I present to you- NASCAR tidbits in no particular order that have been floating around in my brain: (more…)
So I have two classic car things to share with you:
First one is this: You can win a chance to help Tony Stewart change the oil in one of the cars in his classics collection. I have been entering- so I hope that by help they mean hand the man a filter and some paper towels while he scoots under the car on a creeper….just in case I indeed win. I know I should be able to change my own oil but I never have and would feel foolish not knowing what to do! So unless he feels like actually teaching me (I would be willing to learn- at $40 bucks a pop for an oil change I would be saving $$ to do it myself) I would just be handing him the stuff and thinking OMG I totally just handed TONY FREAKING STEWART!!! an oil filter! Because pretty much that is how my brain works. Anyway I am obviously digressing!
The easiest way to enter is first LIKING The MOBIL 1 Facebook page (facebook.com/mobil1) then going to the Under The Hood (Tony’s Sweepstakes) FaceBook ap- which also lets fans vote which car will get it’s oil changed (The options are his 1957 Chevy Bel Air, his 1978 Pontiac Firebird (think Smokey and The Bandit- unless you are too young to know what I speakand then think- cool car), his 1967 Pontiac GTO, and his 1955 Chevy Nomad). Right now it’s the 78 Firebird against the 67 GTO and I am surprised to say as of a couple of minutes ago? The GTO was KILLING the Firebird in the voting- BY A HUGE LANDSLIDE (66% to 34%). I am going to go out on a limb here and say that I think that the overall winner of the car is going to be the 57 Bel Air BUT if I had my way it would be the 55 Nomad. If you have read this site any length of time you know that I ADORE the CHEVY Nomad and would love to own a bright yellow one.
Here is a video about the contest showing off Tony’s actual cars…too bad his Nomad is orange (I am still voting NOMAD when it’s time though).
Anyway- if one of my readers happens to win I hope you will share the experience with us here! And if I will you KNOW I will- but I rarely win things so don’t get your hopes up!
Am I the only one starting to get antsy for the beginning of the NASCAR season? I can’t be the only one who hears a revving engine and is like…MAN when does NASCAR start- NOT SOON ENOUGH that is when! But our “long off season” – which isn’t actually so long in the grand scheme of other sports – is coming to an end sooner than you can shake a broken transmission at (PSA: do NOT attempt to shake a broken transmission- those things look quite heavy).
The Sprint Unlimited is just a little more than week away (Feb 16th) – this race takes the place of what use to be called The Bud Shootout and then just The Shootout. Then the Bud Duels (formally the Gatorade Duels) are Thursday Feb 21st (URG I have to work and they are in the middle of the dang day! WHY NASCAR WHY DO YOU TORTURE ME SO?). Then of course, the DAYTONA 500 is on the 24th. So it’s all happening and soon! I CAN’T WAIT! Sorry for the excessive caplock usage- but when I get excited I have no other way to let you know that to YELL it in my post.
Can you say (or tweet) #GoTonyGo? (more…)
So remember the Mobil 1 Seat Swap with Louis Hamilton? I was REALLY excited about that and we were lucky enough to have Kevin go and give us a great report from that swap. Well Mobil 1 decided to let it’s facebook fans decide what Tony should drive next and over the course of the past several weeks we saw it get whittled down between a TANK and a Formula Drift Chevy Camaro. I voted for the Camaro personally and was surprised to find that it actually won. So today Tony got to drift a Chevy Camaro around Charlotte (the race track not the city). I bet that was FUN! But then he also got to drive the tank anyway. How fun. So there have been two Mobil 1 Seat swaps and I haven’t been able to go to either! BOO to that. Anyway I snagged these pictures from the Official Stewart-Haas Twitter account: (more…)
(Yes I know this is late- but I wanted to make sure I gave this entry the attention it deserved. I hope you find it worth the wait-Amy)
The NASCAR race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway holds a special place in my heart- it was the first NASCAR race I ever attended (and the first oval track race I ever attended). Las Vegas Motor Speedway was also the first Speedway I ever held a media credential at- so it is a track of firsts for me. (more…)
Miles the Monster, mascot to the concrete mile track in Dover, made sure that Tony Stewart, his crew, and his stalwart fans were left disappointed, disheartened, and bewildered at the team’s luck after Sunday’s race (not to mention generally pissed off- but that’s a post for another day). Saturday’s qualifying session was rained out and forced the race line up to go by the practice speeds , a new rule in 2011, for the first time this year. Unfortunately this put the #14 Mobil 1/Office Depot Chevrolet deep in the field- starting 27th. (more…)
Stewart-Haas Racing fans (and no doubt owner/driver Tony Stewart himself) are breathing a collective sigh of relief today as the team announced they have found a replacement co-sponsor for the void left when Old Spice announced they would no longer be sponsoring Stewart’s #14 Chevy Impala come next season. The press conference was at Stewart-Haas Racing this morning. Mobil 1 is replacing Old Spice by being a primary co-sponsor with Office Depot. The press conference also including an unveiling of the Mobil1 car paint scheme:
So…besides liking the paint scheme…did you notice anything else? Anything different about the car? Maybe that this is one of the first views we are getting of the new nose of the 2011 sprint cup cars. Look Ma…no splitter braces! (for a better view of the new nose you can check out this picture tweeted from the event by journalist Jim Utter of the 2011 Office Depot paint scheme or this picture posted by Jayski yesterday of the 2011 Burger King paint scheme).
I like the new look to the nose of the sprint cup car…maybe the lack of splitter braces will help it keep from becoming a debris collection area.
