I know I have said this before- but I love the excitement of racing at Bristol. It and Martinsville are both my favorite tracks to watch on TV (I have not yet made it to either track – but I will one day). But racing at Bristol at night- man there is just something about the lights that adds to the excitement and makes the tension and the vibe at the track almost palpable even through the medium of television.  This Bristol race was no different with plenty of dust-ups, disappointed drivers and of course that racing and that FINISH!  Go ahead and admit it- a tiny little part of you wanted Kasey Kahne to bump-and-run Matt Kenseth…just a little bit right? I certainly did.  I really don’t think anyone would blame him after the issue Kasey has had with the JGR drivers- Matt in particular.  My question to you is this: If Kasey had bumped Kenseth out of the way to take the checkers would that have changed your opinion of Kasey for the better, for the worse, or not at all? Feel free to leave your answer in the comments- I am just curious what your thoughts on this are. (more…)

I interrupt your regularly scheduled race report post (It will post tomorrow afternoon I promise) to get on my soapbox and rant a little. I rarely do this-but sometimes I just have to- even when (or usually because) I know that my opinions are not with the norm.- Amy

I was checking my personal email at work this morning and when I say work I mean the job by which I am a salaried 8-5, M-F employee- NOT this blog which is neither work nor does it make me any money just so we are completely clear on that little point.   Anyway- I was quickly wading through a sea of junk mail and press releases on my phone when I saw that there was a Stewart-Haas Racing Press conference scheduled for 2:00 PM (ET) tomorrow (August 27th, 2013) to “to announce future expansion of Stewart-Haas Racing.”  In layman’s terms I am sure this means that they are announcing the addition of a fourth driver to the Stewart-Haas Racing stable – that being Kurt Busch. Then a little later in the day (at lunch) I checked my social media sites as well as some of my favorite Tony Stewart/Stewart-Haas Racing message boards and they were all abuzz with the news of Kurt Busch going to Stewart-Haas racing in 2014. Plus there was the little push notification from NASCAR MOBILE 13 announcing it. (more…)

I am not surprised that a Ford won at Michigan- it seems that a Ford almost ALWAYS wins at Michigan- before Logano the previous winner of the last two races at Michigan was Ford driver Greg Biffle- see what I mean.

What I am surprised with about the Michigan race? Austin Dillon’s performance in the 14 car!  I know I know- I am biased, BUT I wasn’t sure about Austin Dillon as a choice to run MI.  After all he has little cup car experience.  When Stewart-Haas Racing tweeted out the picture of the yellow rookie stripe on the back of the 14 car I cringed and thought to myself quietly- “this could get ugly” and I fretted a bit.  But then I started seeing practice times. They weren’t that bad all things considered, so I had a little hope.  But then I saw qualifying and was all “eh…that wasn’t so great. Damn rookie.” Yeah I said it…deal with it. Then I saw the results of final practice and was duly impressed. Hmm maybe I misjudged Austin Dillon’s chances (and talents) after all. (more…)

Qualified: 20th

Finished: 9th

Race Winner: Kasey Kahne

Points After Pocono: 11th- five points out of tenth, and 178 points out of first! We are still currently in wild card position and knocking on the door of the top ten again when it comes to the Championship Chase standings! Interesting that we lost ground on tenth- but we gained ground on first. Weird.

My Mood After Pocono: Happy we over came our pit road speeding penalty for a top ten finish! Way to rally!

I am sure by now you have all heard about Tony Stewart’s crash and tumble and injury (both lower right leg bones broken) in Iowa. It’s not the kind of news us fans like waking up to- or in my case going to bed to.  It’s upsetting to say the least. I know what is going to happen in the mainstream media- Tony will be heartily chastised and criticized about his “hobby racing” and a large contingent of his fanbase will get their knickers in a knot because what makes Tony Stewart, Tony Stewart is that he is a racer… not a race car driver but a racer and there is a difference. I find that difference best expressed oddly enough in a quote from a fiction book about the ALMS series that I recently reviewed here:

Plenty of us were racecar drivers. But a racer was something else, someone who loved driving and competing above all else and who’d drive anything anywhere anytime, just to be strapped into a five-point harness.Dead Man’s Switch by Tammy Kaehler (page 116).

First order of business…Mobil 1 has produced a six part series on The Story of Oil….with the help of animated Jenson Button, animated Sergio Perez and yes…animated Tony Stewart.  The first episode is “What’s It Oil About” and is up on the Mobil 1 youtube channel now:

Finished: 4th!

Race Winner: Ryan Newman!

Points After Indianapolis: 11th- one point out of tenth, and 182 points out of first! We are still currently in wild card position and knocking on the door of the top ten again when it comes to the Championship Chase standings!

My Mood After Indianapolis: Pleased it was a good points day for Tony! Pleased that it was a good day for Stewart-Haas Racing because Ryan Newman won! I think you could just say pleased all around!

This is apparently the post of the exclamation points so you will have to excuse me for that.

Apparently I inadvertently gave Ryan Newman good luck last night by posting about him the fact that he not only was on the pole for his home track race but that he did it with a new track record. I also happened to mention his partnership with Oral B Built In The USA  and Oral B’s pledge of $100,000 to Hope For The Warriors. So of course the only reason Ryan won was because I happened to post about him on the night before he had raced his obviously already screaming hot Chevy. Hey don’t burst my bubble! (more…)
