I thought we all needed some much needed Gratuitous Tony Stewart pictures don’t you?  I don’t remember when I started adding the “gratuitous Tony Stewart pictures” to my race posts – it seems like I have been doing it for a long time.  I obviously have not run into any Tony pictures gratuitous or otherwise for my posts since his injury. Anyway, I was looking through my Flickr account for a specific (non-race related) picture the other night when I caught sight of this picture Misty took from Champions week last year. We usually stand at the corner by the Fashion Show mall to get pictures of the actual burn outs but last year we decided to do something a little different and took full advantage of our media access to stand in the little roped off area in front of the Victory Lap stage for media. Misty was taking pictures of each driver as they were introduced on the stage- and this picture is obviously a picture of a somewhat pensive Kasey Kahne…but it’s Tony’s expression behind Kasey that CRACKS ME UP. I don’t know why it humors me so- I guess it’s because it’s like he’s slightly amused by us.  He had probably seen us earlier at the Chevy Gen6 car reveal – as not only did we sit in the first row, but then when media were invited onstage I drug Misty up there because I wanted to get some pictures of the car. Basically Tony photo-bombed this picture of Kasey without meaning to.

Qualified: 20th

Finished: 9th

Race Winner: Kasey Kahne

Points After Pocono: 11th- five points out of tenth, and 178 points out of first! We are still currently in wild card position and knocking on the door of the top ten again when it comes to the Championship Chase standings! Interesting that we lost ground on tenth- but we gained ground on first. Weird.

My Mood After Pocono: Happy we over came our pit road speeding penalty for a top ten finish! Way to rally!

I am sure by now you have all heard about Tony Stewart’s crash and tumble and injury (both lower right leg bones broken) in Iowa. It’s not the kind of news us fans like waking up to- or in my case going to bed to.  It’s upsetting to say the least. I know what is going to happen in the mainstream media- Tony will be heartily chastised and criticized about his “hobby racing” and a large contingent of his fanbase will get their knickers in a knot because what makes Tony Stewart, Tony Stewart is that he is a racer… not a race car driver but a racer and there is a difference. I find that difference best expressed oddly enough in a quote from a fiction book about the ALMS series that I recently reviewed here:

Plenty of us were racecar drivers. But a racer was something else, someone who loved driving and competing above all else and who’d drive anything anywhere anytime, just to be strapped into a five-point harness.Dead Man’s Switch by Tammy Kaehler (page 116).

First order of business…Mobil 1 has produced a six part series on The Story of Oil….with the help of animated Jenson Button, animated Sergio Perez and yes…animated Tony Stewart.  The first episode is “What’s It Oil About” and is up on the Mobil 1 youtube channel now:

Could I possibly use Tony any MORE in the title to this one?

First off the A Tiny #TonyStewart Of Your Very Own giveaway- it was more popular than I thought it would be and I was quite pleased with all the entries!  Because of this I am hoping to run another Tony related giveaway very soon! So without further ado, it looks like flat #TinyTony will be heading up to Canada.  Random.org picked number 10 and Sandi (who mentioned in her comment she thought TinyTony should visit her in Canada) was the tenth commenter on the post. What was coolest about that?  I know that Sandi follows me on Twitter so I dm’d her on twitter about her win as well as sending her the official winner email only to find out that she was AT ELDORA for the truck race when she was notified of her win! How totally COOL is that? I hope she had a great time – she was then on her way to Indianapolis for the Brickyard! Sounds like an awesome RACEcation!

Finished: 4th!

Race Winner: Ryan Newman!

Points After Indianapolis: 11th- one point out of tenth, and 182 points out of first! We are still currently in wild card position and knocking on the door of the top ten again when it comes to the Championship Chase standings!

My Mood After Indianapolis: Pleased it was a good points day for Tony! Pleased that it was a good day for Stewart-Haas Racing because Ryan Newman won! I think you could just say pleased all around!

This is apparently the post of the exclamation points so you will have to excuse me for that.

Apparently I inadvertently gave Ryan Newman good luck last night by posting about him the fact that he not only was on the pole for his home track race but that he did it with a new track record. I also happened to mention his partnership with Oral B Built In The USA  and Oral B’s pledge of $100,000 to Hope For The Warriors. So of course the only reason Ryan won was because I happened to post about him on the night before he had raced his obviously already screaming hot Chevy. Hey don’t burst my bubble! (more…)

I was so excited to come home and settle in to watch the Truck series on dirt tonight- and wouldn’t you know it that there was an accident on my commute home and it took me 40 minutes to get home instead of 20.  I was looking forward to the MudSummer Classic and have been since they announced it.  Why? I like racing.  I don’t follow the truck series that closely. I don’t follow dirt racing that closely.  But combine them and I am excited beyond belief.  Why? Part of it is the novelty of NASCAR on dirt. Or at least it’s a novelty to me as NASCAR hasn’t been on dirt in my entire lifespan (I think they said the last dirt race in the major series was 1970 right?).  Part of it is most definitely the fact that Eldora is Tony Stewart’s baby track- and I can only imagine the excitement and the nervousness he had going into this event (not to mention the crazy preparation for the whole Eldora staff- which apparently is 7 full time people). And of course part of it is the excitement that maybe,  just maybe, NASCAR will consider bring the cup cars onto dirt. I am not even asking for a dirt points race (but that would be AWESOME). They could just make it the All-Star Race ( I mentioned in my All-Star post- see item three). Just the thought of cup cars on dirt makes me absolutely giddy. (more…)
